Purpose

The Investigator Initiated Research Program offers grants to Michigan-based researchers and nonprofit organizations to address health inequities; social determinants of health; and healthcare access, quality and cost.

Projects should focused on:

  • Addressing critical gaps in health-related research
  • Examining factors that may prevent or reduce risk for disease
  • Examining associations and cause and effect relationships between health variables
  • Secondary data analysis of large datasets
  • Health care cost-analysis studies
  • Evaluation projects and feasibility studies to test the implementation of innovative interventions to improve health outcomes
Eligibility

Eligible applicants are primary investigators with medical or doctoral level credentials based in hospitals, universities, and healthcare systems in Michigan.

Up to $75,000.

Application process

Applicants must submit a concept paper to foundation@bcbsm.com at least 60 days before the next grant review deadline to be considered for that funding cycle. Selected applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal.

Applications are accepted at any time and reviewed at Board of Directors meetings 3 times per year. Review dates and deadlines are listed on the program website.
