Purpose

The Arizona Primary Care Provider Loan Repayment Program provides loan repayment for specific healthcare professionals who agree to provide primary care services in a Health Professional Shortage Area or Medically Underserved Area of Arizona.

Applicants must agree to either a full-time (40 hours/week) or a half-time (20 hours/week) service requirement for a minimum of 2 years.

The Arizona Loan Repayment program is divided into two types.

  • Primary Care Provider Loan Repayment Program (PCPLRP) qualifies a primary care provider with current or prospective employment with a public or private, nonprofit entity located and providing services in a federally designated health professional shortage area
  • Rural Private Primary Care Provider Loan Repayment Program (RPPCPLRP) qualifies a primary care provider with current or prospective employment with rural private primary care practices located in federally designated health professional shortage areas or Arizona medically underserved areas
Eligibility

Eligible applicants include:

  • Physicians (MD or DO) in the following fields of practice:
    • Family medicine
    • Pediatrics
    • Obstetrics
    • Internal medicine
    • Geriatrics
    • Psychiatry
  • Advance practice providers in the fields of family medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics, internal medicine, or geriatrics:
    • Nurse midwives
    • Physician assistants
    • Nurse practitioners
  • Dentists
  • Pharmacists
  • Behavioral health providers:
    • Nurse practitioners and physician assistants certified as behavioral health specialists
    • Clinical psychologists
    • Clinical social workers
    • Professional counselors
    • Marriage and family therapists
