Purpose

The AHRQ Health Services Research Projects Program (R01) supports specified health services research projects concerning the delivery of healthcare in inner-city and rural areas, including frontier areas, as well as for other AHRQ priority populations.

Projects should focus on AHRQ's mission and priority areas, and may target services in any healthcare setting, including hospital, long-term care, ambulatory care, home healthcare, pharmacy, and care transitions between settings.

Grantees should work with the Department of Health and Human Services and other partners to make sure that the evidence is understood and used.

AHRQ Research Priority Areas are:

  • Research to improve healthcare quality and patient safety
  • Research to improve healthcare delivery and practice improvement
  • Research to enhance whole-person healthcare delivery

Priority populations include:

  • Individuals living in inner city and rural (including frontier) areas
  • Low-income
  • Minority
  • Women and children
  • Elderly
  • Individuals with special healthcare needs, including individuals with disabilities and those who need chronic care or end-of-life healthcare
