Purpose

The Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program (GusNIP), formerly known as The Food Insecurity Nutrition Incentive Grant Program (FINI) supports projects that will increase the purchase of fruit and vegetables among low-income consumers who participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

The program will award funding for 3 types of projects:

  • GusNIP Pilot Projects - supports the development of projects to pilot innovative strategies to increase the purchase of fruits and vegetables by providing incentives at the point of purchase
  • GusNIP Standard Projects - aimed at experienced, mid-sized groups that are working to expand the breadth, scope, or reach of their programs
  • GusNIP Large Scale Projects - create or support multi-county, state-wide, and regional incentive programs

Projects are encouraged that serve underrepresented geographies and communities, such as tribal communities, communities of color, LGBTQ+, individuals with disabilities, veterans, rural and remote communities, insular areas, or communities with residents predominantly living under the federal poverty line.

Eligibility

Eligibility is limited to government agencies and nonprofit organizations. Institutions of higher education that are local, county, tribal, territory, or state government agencies must provide documentation in support of eligibility as a government agency.

Additional eligibility information for each project type is provided in the application instructions.
