A list of regional brownfield coordinators is located in the program guidance, section VII.
Brownfields Assessment Grants provide funds to inventory, characterize, assess, and conduct planning (including cleanup planning) and community involvement related to brownfield sites. Among other things, funding may be used for the health monitoring of populations exposed to hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants from a brownfield site.
The goal of the brownfields program is to clean up, develop, and reuse property that may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant. Properties can be redeveloped for housing, industry, or public green spaces.
Assessment grants provide funding for a grant recipient to inventory and characterize sites; conduct cleanup and redevelopment; and get the community involved in and informed about the revitalization process.
