FEMA Grants Programs Directorate
Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grants provide financial assistance to help provide funding directly to fire departments and volunteer firefighter organizations in order to help them increase or maintain the number of trained, "front line" firefighters available in their communities. These goals are met through the hiring of new firefighters, rehiring firefighters that have been laid off, retaining firefighters facing imminent layoffs, or filling of positions that were vacated through attrition.
