2009 Avon Foundation Speak Out Against Domestic Violence Program

Purpose For 2009, the Avon Foundation will prioritize proposals that address the following issues:
Reducing and protecting children from trauma around the issue of family separation and divorce in cases where their parents or caretakers are victims of domestic or dating abuse.

The Avon Foundation is interested in supporting model programs developed through collaborations between domestic violence service providers and legal service providers (i.e. Children’s Law Center in DC) that assist child victims of domestic abuse and/or children witnesses to domestic violence.

Proposals will be accepted from domestic violence service providers and legal service providers that:

  • Offer innovative legal and support services to achieve justice and safety for victims and improve the ability of a custodial parent to manage parenting in a safe way.
  • Demonstrate success in developing or expanding a model of collaboration focused on assisting with child safety, particularly with child custody issues, child exchanges and supervised visitation.
  • Increase legal training and direct services in the court process to reduce the traumatic experience of children witnessing and experiencing violence.
  • Provide free technical assistance to attorneys in order to reduce the traumatic experience of separation and divorce on children..
  • Eligibility Nonprofit organizations (501(c)(3) organizations) and agencies that assist children who have been exposed to domestic violence.

    Grants amounts range from $50,000 - $100,000 depending on the size, scope and impact of the program proposed. Grants are for one or two years and are non-renewable.
