| Purpose |
The Colonia Area Planning Fund provides assistance for the completion of planning activities that prepare colonia areas for needed water, sewer and housing improvements.

| Eligibility |
County governments must submit an application on behalf of eligible colonia areas, the colonia area(s) must be located within 150 miles of the Texas-Mexico border region, except that any county that is part of a standard metropolitan statistical area with a population exceeding 1,000,000 is not eligible under this fund. |

Awards are based on an annual competition among the eligible counties that submit Colonia Area Planning Fund applications including benefit to low to moderate-income persons, community distress and project design. Maximum award is $100,000.
