The Flex Monitoring Team maintains a list of Critical Access Hospitals which includes the hospital name, city, state, zip code and effective date of CAH status.
The Critical Access Hospitals (CAH) program was
designed to improve rural health care access and reduce hospital
closures. Critical Access Hospitals provide essential services to
a community and are reimbursed by Medicare on a "reasonable
cost basis" for services provided to Medicare patients.

Swing beds Licensed acute-care beds designated by a hospital to provide either acute or long-term care services. A swing bed hospital is a hospital or critical access hospital (CAH) participating in Medicare that has CMS approval to provide post-hospital skilled nursing facility care and meets certain requirements.
