Atlantic Territory and Commonwealth

The United States has special relationships with two areas in the Atlantic:

• Puerto Rico
• U.S. Virgin Islands

Puerto Rico is a commonwealth and the U.S. Virgin Islands is a territory of the United States. Their residents are U.S. citizens.

Organizations

Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)
International organization
Works to improve health and living standards of the countries of the Americas. Serves as the specialized organization for health of the Inter-American System and as the Regional Office for the Americas of the World Health Organization. It is an international public health agency, and part of the United Nations.

Compiles data from each of the fifty states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands into a full report on demographics, expenditures and financing, health status, utilization and quality of services, resources available, medicare, medicaid, health coverage and the uninsured, plus key trends. Data is current as of 2005, and individual reports are also available from this website for each of the fifty states.
