Coastal Carolinas Health Alliance

Topics Health services
States served North Carolina
South Carolina
Description Coastal Carolinas Health Alliance (CCHA) used a common broker for group, life and LTD insurance products.

The Director of Projects at the Alliance facilitated meetings for the HR Directors from our member hospitals to interview and select a common broker. The team members were asked to be committed to going through the process as a group. There were some members who abstained from the program and did not attend these meetings.

Services offered The Alliance Director of Projects worked with the broker to visit each participating member and gather data to start the market basket process. Each member gave the broker a % of savings that would have to be met for them to make the change and the broker would either meet or exceed each target.
Results The initial savings from this project is in excess of $750,000 and there are still four hospitals we are waiting for their final savings total.
Replication Collecting census data and letters of authorizations from the beginning would have sped this process up.
