Purpose

The Minnesota Rural Physician Loan Forgiveness Program offers loan repayment assistance to primary care physicians who agree to practice in a designated rural area of Minnesota.

A designated rural area is defined as a city or township that is outside the 7-county Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area, excluding the cities of Duluth, Mankato, Moorhead, Rochester, and St. Cloud.

Eligibility

Residents in pediatric, family practice, internal medicine, psychiatry, or OB/GYN programs, as well as primary care physicians who are currently licensed in Minnesota are eligible to apply.

Preference is given to applicants closest to completing their training; those who can demonstrate diverse cultural competencies; and those who plan to provide at least 25% of annual patient encounters to state public program enrollees and/or patients receiving a sliding fee schedule.
