Purpose

Tennessee Rural Residency Incentive Program offers a stipend to physicians studying in primary care and behavioral health residency programs in Tennessee or physicians with Tennessee affiliations who are in out-of-state residency programs.

Recipients must agree to practice in a rural/underserved area of Tennessee for one year per year of stipend accepted.

Eligibility

Physicians training in Tennessee residency programs or physicians training in other states that have a Tennessee affiliation or other circumstances that connect them with a Tennessee practice site.

Amount of funding

$35,000 per year for up to 4 years, depending upon the length of the residency program. The maximum stipend is $140,000.

There are 4 application deadlines during the year:

  • March 1
  • June 1
  • September 1
  • December 1

The deadline for residents in their final year is June 1.
