The Research Demonstration and Dissemination Grant (R18) is an award to support the dissemination and implementation of a specified health services research project related to AHRQ's mission to produce evidence to make healthcare safer, higher quality, more accessible, equitable, and affordable.

Funding will support support a discrete, specified health services research project designed to develop, test, and evaluate health service activities and to foster the application of existing knowledge. Projects may target services in any healthcare setting, including hospital, long-term care, ambulatory care, home healthcare, pharmacy, and care transitions between settings.

Grantees should work with the Department of Health and Human Services and other partners to make sure that the evidence is understood and used.

AHRQ Research Priority Areas are:

• Research to improve healthcare quality and patient safety
• Research to improve healthcare delivery and practice improvement
• Research to enhance whole-person healthcare delivery

Priority populations include:

• Individuals living in inner city and rural (including frontier) areas
• Low-income
• Minority
• Women and children
• Elderly
• Individuals with special healthcare needs, including individuals with disabilities and those who need chronic care or end-of-life healthcare

Eligible applicants include:

• Higher education institutions

  • With 501(c)(3) status

  • Native American tribal organizations

Award ceiling: $400,000 per year
Project period: Up to 5 years
