Purpose

Massachusetts Special Initiatives Grants provide funding for innovative pilot or demonstration projects that respond to health and health-related needs of the community that, if successful, could be replicated and scaled. Projects should positively impact health or healthcare access for Massachusetts residents who have been economically, socially, culturally, or racially marginalized.

Proposals must address one or more of the Foundation's focus areas:

  • Access to health coverage and care
  • Access to behavioral health services
  • Elimination of structural racism and racial inequities in health
Eligibility

Eligible applicants are 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations in Massachusetts and organizations that operate under the fiscal sponsorship of a tax-exempt nonprofit. Organizations must primarily serve low-income people who have been socially, economically or racially marginalized.

Priority will be given to applications from organizations led by people of color and/or whose leadership reflects the demographic composition and lived experiences of the communities they serve.
