Purpose

The Northwest Native American Research Center offers virtual research training programs designed for health professionals and students interested in native health.

Courses emphasize practical skill-building in research, program evaluation, and implementation. Courses include, but are not limited to:

  • Program evaluation
  • Graphic design for health promotion
  • Cancer prevention and control
  • Beginning and intermediate grant writing
  • Tribal research, ethics, and values
  • Tribal sovereignty and public health policy
  • Data visualization
  • Designing survey instruments
  • Introduction to ArcGIS Pro
  • Data science methods
  • Research design

Eligibility

The program is designed for American Indian and Alaska Native health professionals and health science students. Individuals with a strong interest in native health, but who work in professional areas outside of native health are also eligible to attend.

Amount of funding

The cost of tuition per course is $300.

Tuition may be covered by a grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) if one of the following criteria is met.

  • Be an AI/AN health professional or student
  • If not AI/AN, be employed at a tribal health organization
